Six years after Horst Schimanski (Götz George) finished his service with the Duisburg Police Department, the Chief Public Prosecutor, Ilse Bonner (Geno Lechner), brought him back. A gang feud runs bloody through the Ruhr area. But his friend and ex-colleague Thanner was also murdered. This is just the beginning of Schimanski"s comeback. As expected, the gruff Ruhrpott commissioner can solve the case in his very own way and is repeatedly used - more or less legally - for investigations. Schimanski is initially supported by Tobias Schrader (Steffen Wink), later by Chief Commissioner Hunger (Julian Weigend ) .1991 Götz George voluntarily gave up his gun and stamp and disappeared as a "crime scene" inspector.
Six years later he started investigating again in an independent series directed by Hajo Gies. Much to the delight of the audience.
