The king died only recently, and the kingdom is in mourning. One night, however, the ghost of his dead father appears to Prince Hamlet on the battlements of Elsinor Castle. He tells him that he did not die a natural death, but was murdered in the back by his brother Claudius. Hamlet must now ensure that the atrocity is avenged. So Hamlet devises a plan: In order to convict the murderer - his uncle - he pretends to be slowly going insane. But then Hamlet accidentally kills the chamberlain Polonius instead of Claudius, and his son Laertes challenges him to a duel - with a fateful outcome...
